There was truly no room for error.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the low clearance, people began to stand and take photos as we slowly, but steadily, advanced. Sitting on the\u00a0right side, I watched as the edge of the boat glided past the striated stone, not once bumping it.<\/p>\n<p>Impossible, no.<\/p>\n<p>Incredible,\u00a0absolutely.<\/p>\n<p>Once inside, the boat bobbed in place, allowing us the opportunity to\u00a0process what we were seeing.<\/p>\n<p>The interior of the grotto featured a small \u201cbeach\u201d for lack of a better word. In a dingy, one would be able to get out and have just enough space to sit down.<\/p>\n<p>The ceiling, relatively low to some of the others we would see, featured concentric rings of rock. Erosion was taking its slow, methodical toll on the porous limestone.<\/p>\n<p>The grotto was so small, the only option to exit was to put the boat in reverse and back out, a task handled as skillfully as our entrance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10597\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.garganook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/15351849246_9a419d3359_z-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10597\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10597\" src=\"https:\/\/www.garganook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/15351849246_9a419d3359_z-3.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Gobackpacking.com\" width=\"640\" height=\"434\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-10597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Gobackpacking.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Gargano Promontory\u00a0is filled with grottos\u00a0(caves), as I first saw during the visit to\u00a0<a title=\"Monte Sant'Angelo\" href=\"https:\/\/gobackpacking.com\/monte-sant-angelo\/\">Monte Sant\u2019Angelo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Departing daily from Vieste, a whitewashed coastal town\u00a0similar to <a title=\"Peschici\" href=\"https:\/\/gobackpacking.com\/peschici-gargano\/\">Peschici<\/a>, boat tours take\u00a0tourists to\u00a0grottos otherwise inaccessible by land.<\/p>\n<p>There are several companies which run the twice-daily boat tours. It was here where we\u2019d make landfall.<\/p>\n<p>A barbecue lunch is an added cost to the tour, but highly recommended. There was even white wine.<\/p>\n<p>We spent a little under two hours on the beach, before motoring our way back to Vieste.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10609\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.garganook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/blogger-on-the-beach-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10609\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10609\" src=\"https:\/\/www.garganook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/blogger-on-the-beach-3.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Gobackpacking.com\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-10609\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Gobackpacking.com<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I had no idea what to expect of this boat tour, yet it turned out to be one of the highlights from the entire week.
