Greetings,
I’ve just finished a great week in Gargano, Italy. The Gargano Promontory is in north-eastern Puglia in the province of Foggia which could best be described as the spur of the boot which has a rich history, delicious food and is lucky enough to be on the shores of the awe-inspiring Adriatic Sea. I didn’t know much about this region before arriving but having spent a week here, it has quickly risen to one of those destinations which has left me with a stomach full of fantastic food and a mind full of pleasant memories.
Myself and a group of other bloggers arrived in Rome and then we were off to Gargano. We stayed near Rodi Garganico at a place called the Arianna Club and began to explore the region. These shores are known for its fun in the sun and most of the coastal resort areas are extremely busy during the summer months and following that often become quite quiet until summer returns and the area does it all over again. When we arrived the weather was quite moody but by the time we left, we got to experience the very climate which makes this region so popular among sun seekers and those looking to get away from it all for a while and just relax.
There is lots to see and do in the area and the the list to follow is just a sample. On our brief trip, we had the pleasure of visiting Rodi Garganico, Vieste, Peschici, Vico del Gargano, Monte Sant Angelo, the Umbra Forest and the surreal Tremiti Islands which aren’t far off the coast. We could talk about how friendly the people are or how rich the history is but let’s take a moment to discuss the food as it was most certainly an integral part of our experience. I don’t remember the last time I eat so much or enjoyed every single bite of dinners filled with laughter which lasted entire evenings.
Obviously a huge draw here is the Adriatic Sea and as expected, the coast is quite beautiful. It’s September and the weather was being difficult at the start but still beautiful; can imagine this place all made up on a sunny summers day. Lots to see and do here and the old cities that line the coast won’t disappoint. As always, one of my favorite things to do was explore old cities taking photos and appreciating all the sights and sounds which await around each corner. The medieval city of Vico del Gargano, Peschici and Vieste were all a pleasure to explore.
Did I mention the food? I’m going to mention it again because I took a photo of most of the dishes which came through while here and will be posting an essay of them in the not too distant future. When I say the food was out of this world and in such abundance it was almost unbelievable, I’m not exaggerating in the slightest. From freshly made mozzarella in front of you to superb seafood and of course we can’t forget the extra virgin olive oil added to most dishes which is sourced locally in Gargano.
I’d go on but I’m leaving here shortly and catching a train to my next destination. This week flew by at record speeds and the Tremiti Islands are arguably one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. They have this old Abbey on top of Saint Nicola which is a rocky island surrounded by that incredibly clear water which the Adriatic Sea is famous for. Everything added in the future will be tagged under Gargano so stay tuned for more, much more.
In Closing, I’d like to thank the GarganoOK Consortium for their out of this world hospitality. To say I had an incredible time and am keen to explore more of Gargano would be an understatement. This is one of those beautiful places on the planet where I won’t just be coming back to explore and enjoy more of the place but also to see many of the people I’ve met which helped make this experience what it was.
Tips hat,
P.S: These photos are just a taste of what we saw from my instagram account.
